EA and Bioware have decided to join forces with FUNimation to create an anime based off their Dragon Age universe. So hold on to your pants because this could be simply amazing or amazingly bad.
Brace for (third) Impact!
The sequel to the successful first installment of the Neon Genesis Evangelion rebuild seems poised to take the top place in sales in Japan. The Blu-ray and DVD releases of the title in question have seen strong sales, setting the sequel on track to shatter sales records (as well as some wallets) on its way up the sale charts.
Warner Bros. Now Has Eyes on Bleach
The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Warner Brothers “is in the process of securing the rights to” Tite Kubo’s Bleach manga. Director, Peter Segal (Anger Management, The Longest Yard, Get Smart) is lining up to produce, but not direct the live action film.
Cowboy Bebop Character Designer Attending Anime Expo
Announced on Thursday by Anime Expo in Los Angeles, California, character designer and animation director, Toshihiro Kawamoto, will be this year’s guest of honor. Kawamoto is famous for his creation of the cast of the anime, Cowboy Bebop.
Yankee-kun to Megane-chan Soon To Be a TV Series
It’s official! The popular manga, Yankee-kun to Megane-Chan (known as Flunk Punk Rumble in the US) will soon get its own TV series, according to this week’s Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine. Those of you who have been following the manga since it was originally launched back in 2006 will be glad to hear a premiere date of April 23rd 2010 has been set.
Crayon Shin-chan’s Creator Missing
According to the Japanese newspapers, Mainichi Shimbun and Zaikei Shimbun, an emergency call was received at Sakushi City Fire Department around 10:15AM on Saturday, September 19th, reporting the remains of a body with tattered clothing under a cliff in the mountains of the Gunma Prefecture.
Japanese Literary Works to Become an Anime
Recently, manga artist, Takeshi Obata, famous for his work on Death Note and Bakuman, designed a new cover for famous works of Japanese literature, including Osamu Dazai’s No Longer Human and Soseki Natsume’s Kokoro, two of the most popular and highest selling books in Japan.
Kaze no Stigma and Midnight Cafeteria Updates
Fujimi Shobo, a Japanese publishing company, has officially announced that the author of Kaze no Stigma, Takahiro Yamato, officially passed away on July 20, 2009. The story, created in 2002, now remains incomplete with eleven volumes.
Manga Being Considered for American Live-Action Adaptations
Revealed at San Diego’s Comic-Con, Dark Horse publishers are negotiating with Universal Films to gain the right to make a film inspired by CLAMP’s Clover. Clover is the story of a girl named, Su, who lives in a dystopian future. She is known as a ‘Clover’ one of many children who have the special ability to manipulate technology.
Live Action Space Battleship Yamato
Announced at Otakon by Noboru Ishiguro, original director of the series, Space Battleship Yamato, the show will be seeing a revival after twenty-six years with a new anime film and live-action feature. Space Battleship Yamato, or Space Cruiser Yamato or Star Blazers, as it has been translated in the past, is the story about Earth in the year of 2199.
Animator Yoshinori Kanada Reportedly Passes Away
From the news source, Anido, famous Japanese animator, Yoshinori Kanada has reportedly died of a heart attack at the age of fifty-seven. Yoshinori’s influential animating style, having inspired others for over thirty years, has touched some of the most well known and industry changing anime shows and films.
Anime Accepted Into the Guinness Book of World Records
An anime entitled, Soreike! Anpanman, was just accepted into the Guinness Book of World Records for highest number of characters in an animated franchise. The children’s superhero comedy show is listed with having 1,768 different characters appear on the show’s first 980 episodes. Originally airing on October 3, 1988, Soreike! Anpanman has stayed strong for over 20 years.
Life Size Gundam Unveiling in Japan
Yoshiyuki Tomino, creator of the original Gundam show, is celebrated this summer with a Gundam convention. The 30th Anniversary Project has been broken into three main segments, Real-G, Feel-G and Soul-G. Real-G, which happened on Friday evening at Tokyo’s artificial, was the unveiling of a 18 meter or 59 foot tall, life size Gundam, the RX-78-2.
Naruto Shippuden Updates From Viz
During Anime Expo in California, representatives of Viz announced the latest news regarding Naruto: Shippuden, the ongoing sequel to the hit manga and anime, Naruto. With Cartoon Network recently making changes to their programming by no longer licensing content and looking to develop new shows internally, they will not be airing Naruto: Shippuden on television.
Viz Distributor Adds ’20th Century Boys’ Trilogy to Sales
Written by Naoki Urasawa, 20th Century Boys debuted as a manga in 2000, winning such prestigious awards as, Kodansha Manga Award in 2001 and an Excellence Award by the Japan Media Arts Festival in 2002. 20th Century Boys’ English translation has been in America since February of 2009 and is a total series of twenty-two volumes.
Which Anime Will Become An American Live Action Movie ?
Akira, a manga created by Katsuhiro Otomo, was released initially in 1982 and ran until 1990, during which time an animated film came out in 1988, based upon the original source, though shortened in plot for running time. Set in the year of 2019, Akira is the story of a post-apocalyptic Neo-Tokyo where the police, politicians and scientists are not trusted by a motorcycle gang.
