Anime: Living the Stereotype Part II

Here you go for page two of what could very well amount to a wild and biased opinion! Read on for the conclusion or if you just feel like taking in some of the ideas exposed on it. You’ll have to admit there’s truth to it, whether you feel like raging on the forums about or not

Is it really that bad?

Look at the current season, or even the last two years. There are great animes out there, there’s no questioning that. But erotic anime seems to overwhelm any of the others, when was the last time you saw a “serious” anime that didn’t go nose first into fan service once a plot got sort of stale? The sad truth is that a sub-genre of the anime industry has taken a stranglehold over the entire market. Many animes have nothing but heaping amounts of fan services, which are then censored and released in DVD’s as they were intended to be seen on the first place (the only thing better than a nipple is the promise of one, or so it seems).

It may seem like a senseless rant, but anime as of late has turned into something that can’t really be shared with ease. Sitting on the marketable clichés and selling off of the breasts and buttocks of a few voluptuous heroines. Many animes seem to be made to push the lines of fetishistic content and drain the wallets of any otaku that gets duped into buying the deluxe edition of a box set.

This is all related to the downfall of the anime market in sales, some may argue that piracy has a hand in it. Then you look at five different animes all dealing with the same topics and realize that there are bigger problems at hand that the internet. Fan service became a excuse to sell through sex so rapidly that it went from “Oh awesome! Beach episode!” to “Awesome, there’s some actual plo…wait no, they are going to the pool”.

Where we stand

Anime is still good and some fan service based anime is great every now and then, the real problem lies with the studios and even us. Anime went mainstream a while ago and believe it or not it’s all about the Benjamins, they gave us fan service and we bought into it so hard that the studios began to churn out more and more of it not to meet demands but to get into the bandwagon of cash. It’s no secret that the anime market is in a dire situation, but things need to change if we are to escape the sad stereotypical world we find ourselves thrown into.

So support your favorites and remember, once upon a time anime wasn’t all about breasts flopping wildly in the wind defying physics, or clothes that would break down to dust with a gentle touch. It was about stories and radical content that made a mark, so if you have a friend or know somebody that claims that anime is nothing but that then show him one of the good ones, a classic and then know that this is just for now (hopefully).
